sani belloNiger State governor, Mr Sani Bello on Wednesday said the government has started implementing the Treasure Single Account (TSA).

The Governor said this while declaring open the 11th Northern Zonal District Accountants Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in Minna, Niger State capital.

He further said that the state has also adopted the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) as this year’s budget document was prepared in compliance with the global standard.

Governor Sani Bello, who spoke through his Deputy, Mr Ahmed Muhammad Ketso said his administration is ready to promote IPSAS by providing adequate staff and funds needed to guarantee successful implementation.

“In Niger State, we have gone far in becoming fully IPSAS compliant; as our budget document is already fully IPSAS compliant and effort is on to ensure publication of IPSAS compliant financial statements.

We have also implemented the Treasury Single Accounts (TSA) system, in order to ensure transparency and accountability.

“It is in line with the spirit of the change mantra that I wish to assure this conference of support and political-will to promote all the processes of IPSAS compliance, especially, in the provision of adequate staffing and finding required to ensure successful implementation”, he said.

The Governor said the theme of the conference “IPSAS Adoption in Nigeria: Implication on Accountability and Probity” came just at the time the country is strategizing ways of fighting corruption.

He then urged participants at the conference to come up with strategies for implementation as well as recommendations to guide the first-time adopters of the policy, so as to ease the process of transition to the IPSAS.
