Zonal congress, PDPThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has thrown its weight behind all the decisions taken at the national convention of the party in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State’s capital.

The Niger State PDP Chairman, Tanko Beji, disclosed this to reporters on Wednesday in a statement in Minna, the state’s capital in north-central Nigeria.

He said that the PDP in the state wholeheartedly supported the composition of the Caretaker Committee headed by the former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, stressing that they would give the committee their full support.

He added that the Niger State PDP believed that the Port Harcourt convention was properly constituted and was conducted in line with the constitution of the party.

“We are of the firm opinion that the decisions taken at the convention will not only revive our party, but re-position it to properly play its role as the main opposition political party in Nigeria and prepare us for the task of wresting power from the misrule of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2019,” he said.

Rebuild The PDP
Mr Beji further urged all true PDP members from all parts of Nigeria to join Senator Makarfi and the Caretaker Committee in the task of reconciling and rebuilding the party.

He also challenged the Caretaker Committee within 90 days at its disposal, to carry out its mandate to the satisfaction of majority of members by ensuring that all stakeholders were carried along in its decision making process.

The PDP chieftain appealed to party faithful who were at the Abuja parallel convention to see the latest development as the best opportunity for every hand to be on deck for positive and progressive course of the party.

He urged them to retrace their steps by supporting the decisions of the Port Harcourt convention and see it as the best approach to rebuild the PDP.

“This is the most appropriate time for all of us to come together as members of the same family to breathe new life into our party in the interest of all of us and Nigeria as a nation,” he said.
