NECO, NigerThe National Examination Council (NECO) headquarters in Minna has donated two boreholes and learning materials to the host communities in Gidan Mangoro and Gbaganako, Chanchaga local government areas of Niger State.

The Registrar/CEO of NECO, Professor Abdulrashid Garba, commissioned the boreholes and presented the learning materials to the indigent students of Day Secondary School, Gbada, in Gidan Mangoro LGA.

He said that the idea was born out of NECO’s social responsibility to maintain cordial relationship with the host communities.

Professor Garba explained that benefiting students who were identified and provided with learning materials were drawn from the only public secondary school in Gbada while they selected base on the test conducted by the Council.

According to him, three SS3 students who had earlier paid NECO 2016 SSCE (June/July) fee of 11,550 Naira were refunded their money while other three SS2 students were presented with textbooks, notebooks and mathematical sets.

He said further that three other indigent students each from JS1 to 3 were equally selected and received textbooks, notebooks, school uniform, a pair of canvass, a pair of stockings, school bag and two singlets each.

Garba reiterated the commitment of the Council to extending the same gesture of corporate social responsibility to other communities in the state.

The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, who was represented by the Commissioner of Education, Fatima Madugu, appreciated the good gesture of the NECO management, saying it would go a long way in sustaining their cordial relationship.

She urged the Council not to restrict the gesture to only host communities, noting that two public schools each have been earmarked from the three geo-political zones of the state to be renovated to UNESCO standard.

The Village Head of Gidan Mogoro, Adamu Marafa, in his remark commended NECO for the foresight. He appealed to the students and people of the community to make good use of the materials.
