The Interim Medical Committee in charge of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, disclosed that the committee has done their bit in restoring normalcy to the centre, after months of industrial unrest that paralysed medical activities.
The chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Professor Ndu Eke, said this at a news conference in Owerri the Imo state capital, Southeast Nigeria.
He said with less than one month to the expiration of its 6-month tenure approved by the Federal Government, the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, for the first time has gotten accreditation two major areas of medicine, the Ear, Nose and Throat surgery ENT and Family Medicine.
Professor Eke also noted that his team has restored financial discipline back to the centre which was one of the major issues addressed that led to the suspension of the previous management of the hospital, noting that it has restored cordial working relationship with the staff and management of the centre.
He called on staff of the centre to ensure the sustenance of the present peace pointing out that the smooth running of the centre is of great importance not only to the people in the state.
It could be recalled that last year, the FMC was on strike for many months following the crisis between the management and staff of the centre on issues focused on alleged non-payment of salaries, financial recklessness leveled against the previous management amongst other issues.
