NSCDCThe Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Imo State has nabbed seven  suspected oil bunkers along Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

The state commandant of the NSCDC, Stephen Lar said the Suspects were arrested at an odd hour of the night while conveying their products to an undisclosed destination with five different private vehicles loaded.

The vehicles were said to contain substance suspected to be over 10, 000 litres of illegally refined crude oil stored in about 200 packs of polythene bags and concealed inside the vehicles in order to beat security checks.

Economic Sabotage

He described the action as an economy sabotage and handed out stern warning to vandals, illegal miners and oil thieves to rather repent or stay off Imo state as all measures are in place to arrest anyone involved in such act.

On interrogation, one of the suspects who disguised as a security operative said he was introduced to the business by a friend who needed to help him because he was in need of financial assistance to pay some hospital bills, he denied getting the substance through pipeline vandalism.

Another quizzed suspect disclosed that he was hired as a driver to convey the product to Owerri with the promise of paying him 4,000 Naira.

Other items recovered from them include Ak-47 rifle with rounds of ammunition and fake security operative’s uniform.

The state commandant said after all investigations have been concluded, they will be arraigned to court for further prosecution.
