IDPs, GwozaInternally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camping in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, have appealed to the government to put measures in place to enable them return to their homes in Gwoza, Borno State.

The Secretary of the camp, Mr Enoch Yohana, made the plea on Sunday while refuting claims that they have refused to return to their communities in northeast Nigeria.

He said that although they were excited by the turn of events, they could not make the decision to return home because their part of the northeast has not been fully liberated from the Boko Haram terrorists.

Yohana stressed that they were more eager to return home because of the poor living conditions in their camp such as the poor sanitary conditions and lack of basic amenities.

He added that some of the displaced persons had relocated to other neighbouring states for economic reasons, pending when their communities were declared safe for return.

The IDPs expressed delight with the progress being made by the military in recovering many communities previously under the control of the insurgents.

However, some of the IDPs, Maryam Amos and Francis Yakubu, explained that their reluctance to return home was because they believed that some of the communities were not yet safe.
