OkorochaThe Imo State government has met with the Eke-Ukwu market traders and artisans to discuss the ongoing relocation of the market.

The Governor spoke with traders, artisans and various market associations at a meeting at the Imo International Conference Center in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

At the meeting, the Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha explained the planned relocation to the newly secured Imo modern market along Egbeada layout within the state capital.

He explained that the Imo State government had decided it was time to relocate to a more conducive and organized environment that would not continue to deface the city.

He said that the plan to give the state capital, Owerri an infrastructural face-lift and expand all the major roads was on top gear.

Governor Okorocha added that the state government would not be deterred or distracted in the ongoing relocation plan of the Eke-Ukwu market popularly called the Douglas market.

For the people, the relocation plan is a welcome development but also a tough task as they complained of the time and process of getting allocation in the new place.

After several hours of meeting, the Governor insisted on the relocation of the market and gave the occupants three weeks to vacate and move to the new site which has been allocated and under construction.
