PDP, APC, Imo rerunThe All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State have continued to trade words ahead of Saturday’s Okigwe North Senatorial district rerun election as well as rerun elections in Isiala Mbano and Oru East state constituencies.

At a rally in Umunumo Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, the PDP senatorial candidate for the Okigwe North rerun election, Athan Achonu said that they were aware of the antics and plans of the APC in the state to scuttle and rig Saturday’s election.

He warned that his party woild not be intimidated and would not allow any form of rigging and electoral malpractice by the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Hilary Eke, at a briefing with journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital, accused the Peoples Democratic Party of hiring thugs from neighbouring states to cause mayhem on electorates in Okigwe zone.

He also added that most of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials posted to conduct the election have strong ties with the PDP candidate.

After three failed attempts to elect a representative for Okigwe North senatorial district, July 23 has been finally fixed by the INEC to conduct the rerun election in the zone.

Meanwhile, the Police authority and other security operatives in the state will in a press conference on Thursday, present modalities on structures being put in place to ensure that the election goes smoothly.
