The Nigeria Police has declared militia leader, Terwase Akwaga, also known as Ghana wanted.

Police, Nyesom Wike, RiversControversy has continued to trail the recent comments credited to Governor Nyesom Wike on the Police postings ahead of the rerun election in Rivers State.

The reaction is sequel to the planned move by the acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to send a new batch of Police officers for the legislative rerun in disputed areas of the state.

Governor Wike had stated that he would not support Police officers with questionable character and who had earlier served in the state to be assigned to oversee the rerun and security affairs in the state.

However, a civil right society group has frowned at the Governor’s stance.

They believe that it is not the right of the Governor to determine security operatives posted for the legislative rerun election coming in less than seven days.

The leader of the group, Mr Ken Atswete, noted that it is inimical to the progress of Nigeria’s democratic growth and security.

Meanwhile, the Rivers PDP Publicity Secretary, Samuel Nwonosike, says the Governor’s statement has been misinterpreted.

“The Governor is merely saying that for you not to bring down the fragile peace that we are trying to enjoy in Rivers State, don’t bring back those same persons who have questionable characters.

“How can you expect a Police officer who went to the tribunal to testify against a political party and in favour of another political party to be neutral in a political event?” Mr Nwonosike explained.

The Rivers State Police Command is yet to make an official comment on the matter.
