security concerns, edo election, INECThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says its biggest challenge ahead of the Edo governorship election is security.

The Edo State Resident Electoral Commission, Mr Sam Olumekun, said this at a gathering tagged ‘Civil Society Situation Room Dialogue’.

He explained that there were security issues that must be resolved before the commencement of the election.

He said that the commission has compiled flash points in the state for security agencies to monitor in order to prevent violence during the process.

The Edo State governorship election will be the first statutory election to be conducted under the new leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

However, the commission has had a trail of inconclusive elections since it assumed office.

It is for this reason that members of the civil society met with officials of the commission to review the steps taken so far to ensure a credible and peaceful election in the state.

The commission promised to review the security architecture of the election and deliver a transparent and peaceful election on September 10, 2016.
