The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojuku said that four other victims were in a critically situation, following the incident.

For fear of reprisal attack, the anti-riot police, counter-terrorism unit and operatives of the homicide section of the state Criminal and Investigation Department, Enugu have been deployed to the area to ward off any breakdown of law and order.

The Commissioner of Police also warned members of the community to be calm and not take laws into their hands, but allow the police to investigate the alleged attack.

It is the second time that herdsmen have killed people in Enugu State within the last four months.

The first attack in April left at least 20 persons dead.

After the attack, former Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, ordered the detention of a policeman, identified as Corporal Chukwu, who allegedly collaborated with herdsmen during the killing of residents in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
