Twitter, VineSocial network giant, Twitter says it has closed its video sharing service, Vine after it was launched about four years ago.

Although the company refused to state reasons for the closure, it had earlier announced that it was cutting nine per cent of its workforce due to slow growth of the social network.

“In the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the (Vine) mobile app.

“Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today.

“You’ll be able to access and download your Vines (as) we’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made,” Twitter said on a blog.

The company promised to notify users before it made any changes to the Vine app or website.

Vine is a platform that allows people share six-second-long video clips that play on a loop.

It has since integrated a separate video facility into Twitter’s main platform and also launched the live streaming app, Periscope.
