Students, as well as teachers in some public primary schools in Benue state, have appealed to the state government to ensure quick renovation of their dilapidated school structures.

The children, who sit under trees and on the bare floor to take classes, have called for a speedy reconstruction of their schools before the raining season sets in.

The state government is however constructing 740 new structures to help uplift the standards of public primary schools in the state.

A Head Teacher at the LGEA Primary School Ekpon, in Oju local government council, while appealing to the state government to ensure contractors complete the job before the raining season sets in, went ahead to commend the ongoing rehabilitation work.

The government team, led by the Executive Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Philip Tachin, while monitoring the progress of work at the Benue south senatorial district, promised to ensure that the schools are put in habitable condition as soon as possible, to enhance condusive learning.

Tachin, worried by the condition of the students, has therefore ordered the timely completion of the project to restore dignity to the school.

On the other hand, one of the contractors, has according to the government, asked for variation of his contract due to the high cost of building materials.

The government says it would look into the request only if it is guaranteed that the standard of work is maintained.
