Court Remands 68-Year-Old Man For Alleged Manslaughter In IfeAn Osun state Magistrates Court sitting at Modakeke, in Ife North-East Local Government Area of the state has remanded an 68-year-old man, Lamidi Olonade, in prison custody over alleged manslaughter.

The Prosecutor, Sgt Ona Glory, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 4, 2017 around 3:30PM at Celestial Junction, Famia Road, Modakeke-Ife.

Glory said that the accused drove one unregistered Vento Saloon Car recklessly on the public highway without having regards for all traffic rules and regulations guiding it.

He added that the dangerous driving of the accused on the highway led to the death of Ayobami Isawumi, Funmilayo Famakinde and caused serious injuries and also leaving one Blessing Akinpelu with a broken leg.

According to him, the accused drove recklessly on the highway without driver’s license and was discovered to have been driving under the influence of alcohol to such an extent of being incapable of having control of the vehicle.

Glory stated further that the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 5, 6, 10 (1), 28 and 30 (1) of the road traffic, Act Cap 135, Vol 6, Laws of the Federation, 1990.

The accused, who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to six-count charge levelled against him.

Magistrate Bose Awosan did not take the plea of the accused, but ordered for his remand at Ile-Ife prison custody, so as to serve as deterrent to those that are addicted to such crime.

Awosan adjourned the case till February 13 for hearing.
