The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the release of the mother and sister of a lawmaker, who were abducted by gunmen in Angwan Yara village of Akwanga Local Government Area.

The mother and sister of Kassim Mohammed-Kassim, who represents Akwanga South in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, were abducted around 8p.m. on Sunday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kennedy Idirisu, however, confirmed their release on Thursday in Lafia.

According to him, the victims regained their freedom as a result of combined efforts of the police, the vigilante and other security agencies in the state.

He said the police would not rest until the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to book.

According to Idirisu, the police is not aware of any ransom payment to secure the release of both women.

However, a family source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the family parted with some money before they regained their freedom.
