The Senate has ordered revenue-generating agencies in the country to stop further spending, pending the submission of their budgets to the National Assembly.

This followed a motion by the Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Na’Allah, during plenary on Wednesday.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and other senators criticised the agencies for disregarding the Constitution and Fiscal Responsibility Act by spending trillions of naira without appropriation.

The Senate also gave Acting President Yemi Osinbajo two weeks to ensure the submission of the budgets of the revenue-generating agencies, including the Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, and Federal Inland Revenue Service.

The Senate, however, excluded the Central Bank and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
