Wizkid, artist of the yearWizkid may have missed out on a Grammy earlier this year, but his rise on the global music scene has continued with the Nigerian star bagging seven nominations at the Billboard Music Awards.

After “One Dance”, Drake’s hit collaboration with him and Kyla, was shockingly ignored at the Grammys, it has gone on to score him seven nominations and a better chance of winning.

The popstar was nominated for Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, Top Streaming Song, Top Collaboration, Top R&B Song and Top R&B Collaboration, just one nod short of Beyonce’s eight nominations.

And Billboard took to Twitter to congratulate him.

Drake and The Chainsmokers lead the Billboard Music Awards nominations list with 22 nods; followed by Twenty One Pilots (17) and Rihana (14).

The awards, which will be hosted by Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens, will take place on Sunday night.
