Premier League champions Chelsea title win was a “huge achievement”, said midfielder N’Golo Kante after picking up the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year award in London on Thursday (May 18).

Chelsea sealed the title with a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last Friday (May 12) and can add to their Premier League glory when they play the FA Cup final against Arsenal on May 27.

Kante was signed by Chelsea at the beginning of the season after the Frenchman had played a starring role in Leicester City’s remarkable title success last season, when Chelsea, the previous season’s champions, had only finished tenth, missing out on European competition this season.

Chelsea’s only Champions League win came in the 2011-12 season, and next season will be the 26-year-old’s first time in the Champions League.

Kante was full of praise for the club’s manager Antonio Conte, who joined the club at the start of the season after coaching Italy’s national team at the Euro 2016 championships to the quarter-finals.

“I think he’s a fantastic manager. He was doing very well when he was in Italy, and to come here and win the league is good for him, good for the club, good for us. The way he works in training, his tactical work he learnt to everyone, he’s a very, very good manager,” said Kante.
