It’s going to be a battle for the top of the North American weekend box office from Friday through Sunday as “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” tries to fend off “Alien: Covenant” for the top spot.

“Guardians,” which has already taken in $646 million worldwide, is estimated to take in another $36 million during its third weekend in theatres, according to BoxOfficePro.

That will be a close call with newcomer “Alien,” with a predicted debut of $35.9 million.

From director Ridley Scott, “Alien” is the latest in the horror franchise, this time following the crew of a colony ship who encounter the deadly creature.

Also new this weekend will be “Everything, Everything,” which follows a house-bound teenage girl suffering from an immunodeficiency disorder who risks her life on an adventure with the boy next door. It’s predicted to earn $9 million.

And comedy “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul,” follows a family road trip that goes off-course. It’s expected to earn $9 million its weekend debut.

Rounding out the top five is expected to be “Snatched.” The film should add another $8 to 9 million to its global sales of 27 million dollars.
