The group stage of the ninth edition of the Channels International Kids Cup commenced on Monday with Lagos State representatives, Community Primary School from Abule Egba defeating Islamic Primary School from Osun 1-0 in a Group A clash.

The second match in group A saw another Lagos School, Xplanter from Ikorodu lose by a lone goal to Paragon Primary School from Edo State.

Jaafaru Primary School beat World Book Model 3-1, and Burahanudeen LGEA edged St Augustine 2-1 in Group B.

In Group C, Ghanaian School Abeka 4 Basic played a goalless draw with African Church Primary School from Ogun State while Islamiya Beat Turaki Model 2-Nil.

Mowoe Primary School beat Saint Louis De Seme 2- nil, Waziri Primary School and Community Primary School drew goalless in Group D.

The Channels Kids Cup, which is aimed at discovering young talents and promoting the game of football at the grassroots level, is a corporate social responsibility programme of Channels Television.

The Channels Kids Cup has been endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation’s first Vice Chairman, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Youth Development Committee.

He described the competition as a model for football development in the country.

“Every year, the Channels Kids Cup keeps getting better and the NFF will continue to support the project the best way we can. It is a laudable platform to discover and nurture future champions. We should monitor it closely”. Akinwunmi stated.
