Trump Willing To Work With Russia And ChinaUnited States President Donald Trump arrived in Tel Aviv on Monday in an attempt to revive the decades-old peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu greeted the president as he stepped off Air Force One, saying “Welcome our good friend”.

Trump will have formal meetings with Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas separately during his two days in the area and has vowed to restart dialogue between the parties, which officially collapsed three years ago.

“In my travels in recent days I have found new reasons for hope (…) We have before us a rare opportunity to bring security and stability and peace to this region and to its people, defeating terrorism, and creating a future of harmony, prosperity, and peace. But we can only get there working together. There is no other way,” Trump said.

When he met with Netanyahu at the White House in February, Trump indicated he’d be open to abandoning efforts for a so-called two-state solution, a cornerstone of past presidencies, if a viable alternative was presented.

And when Abbas visited Washington earlier this month Trump again declined to affirm it.

Trump has postponed a campaign pledge to relocate the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a controversial move that would have given symbolic weight to Israel’s side in negotiations and broken rank with other world powers.

Trump arrived in Israel from Saudi Arabia, where, in a speech before Arab leaders, he toned down the harsh anti-Muslim rhetoric he’s used in the past, in efforts to bolster cooperation against Islamist militants.
