The Federal Executive Council, today stood still for Channels TV’s State House Correspondent, Mr Chukwuma Onuekwusi.

Before the commencement of the council’s weekly meeting, the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, called for a minute’s silence for the broadcaster, who died in a private hospital in Abuja yesterday.

Earlier, the Acting President said he received the news of Onuekwusi’s death with great sadness, extending condolences to Onuekwusi’s family, Channels TV and the State House Press Corps.

Tributes have been pouring in for Mr Onuekwusi, who died in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Besides those from the Acting President, condolences came from the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and many others.

Dr Saraki hailed his contribution to journalism as a hardworking, passionate and conscientious reporter.

Senator Ekweremadu, on his part, described his reports on the Presidency as authoritative and delightful for millions of Nigerians to watch.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, also paid tribute to him.

In a series of tweets, the Speaker said, “I’m saddened to hear about the death of the Channels TV’s State House correspondent. May God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his loved ones.”
