Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso have continued their protest over the prolonged closure of the institution in Oshogbo, the Osun state capital.

The protesting students who left the governor’s office on Wednesday after several hours of waiting with no government official attending to them, assembled as early as 7 a.m. today and marched from Olaiya Junction to the Government House, Okefia where they blocked the entrance and the road, causing commuters to take alternative routes.

In spite of the heavy presence of security personnel, the students barricaded the government house gate, demanding to see Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Fimihan Adeoye, made it possible for the Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye Tomori, to address the students.

She appealed to the students, assuring them that efforts were being made to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis between the two states – Oyo and Osun, which own the institution and the striking lecturers.

One of the students, Abodunrin Damilola said if nothing tangible and favourable is achieved at the end of the meeting, they will return to the streets in protest.
