Tesla Inc Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Thursday that he was one of the critics of United States President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate accord.

Via Twitter, Musk announced that he will leave White House advisory councils. “Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.”

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and former U.S. Vice Presidents Al Gore and Joe Biden also tweeted their disapproval of Trump’s decision to pull the United States from the landmark 2015 global agreement to fight climate change.

“I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,” the Republican president said during his announcement from the White House Rose Garden.

The Democratic mayor of the city mentioned by Trump, Pittsburgh’s Bill Peduto, quickly chimed in that his town long known for the steel industry actually embraced the Paris accord. “As the Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy & future,” Peduto tweeted.

Former President Barack Obama also released a statement saying, “Even in the absence of American leadership; even as this Administration joins a small handful of nations that reject the future; I’m confident that our states, cities, and businesses will step up and do even more to lead the way, and help protect for future generations the one planet we’ve got.”

Biden tweeted, “We’re already feeling impacts of climate change. Exiting #ParisAgreement imperils US security and our ability to own the clean energy future.”

Sanders on his part tweeted, “”Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement is an abdication of American leadership and an international disgrace.”
