About 14 persons have been reportedly killed in Sime-Tai community, Tai Local Government area of Rivers State following an alleged cult attack in the area.
Some residents say heavily armed assailants stormed the community, shooting sporadically and leaving a number of people dead and several others injured.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni told Channels Television that although details of the attacks are still sketchy, investigations are on to unravel the cause of the attack and unmask the hoodlums.
An eyewitness said that some residents have begun to relocate for fear of further attacks.
These reports of killings are coming after the Rivers State Government had given amnesty to suspected cultists in Ogoni land.
Meanwhile, six persons have also been reportedly kidnapped in a fishing settlement known as Asaramatoru, in Andoni Local Government Area of the state.
The assailants were said to have stormed the settlement in two gun boats and seven speed boats.
