The Kwara State Government has restated its readiness to restore what it describes as the lost glory of sports in the state by investing heavily in the sector.

The State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed made the promise while receiving the first runners up of the Channels International Kids Cup.

He noted that the state used to be the ‘home of champions’ years back and he is determined to restore it to its rightful position.

The governor, therefore, emphasised that the state under his leadership would prioritise sports development by encouraging recognised talents and also working towards detecting hidden ones.

“Professionalism in sports has gone beyond just winning medals but creating wealth for the youth and also, it is when you understand team spirit that you know how to manoeuvre and excel within the system.”

He then urged the students not to relent in their efforts in sports and advised them to strive hard to properly combine their educational pursuit with sports.

“Sports requires discipline, it is when you have a strong sense of discipline, that you can show dedication, manage your temper and compete favourably,” Abdulfatah said.

The team leader of the Channels Kids Cup, Mrs Olaide Olanrewaju expressed gratitude to the governor for his support for sports development in the state.

She hinged their successes on the support they enjoyed from the present administration in the state and sought for continuous support and encouragement to further boost their morale.
