Former Nigerian national team goalkeeper Dosu Joseph has added his voice on the outcome of the Super Eagles’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier opener against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The Eagles kicked off their qualifying campaign on a losing note as they lost 2-0 to the South Africans at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Former goalkeeper Dosu told Channels Television that the team paid for underrating their opponents.
“Maybe they (the young players) believe because we’ve been beating South Africa for ages; they just went there thinking it’s a training game and before they knew it, we’ve been banged,” he said.
Dosu, however, urged the technical crew to invite some experienced players to join the squad in order to develop the new players.
“I will only advise the technical crew to please bring in the few experienced players, we need the young ones too but they need to learn from the experienced ones. I think with that they will be able to win games too,” he said.
The former goalkeeper asked the Eagles to redeem their pride by defeating African champions Cameroon during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in August.
