The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has rescued 12 persons suspected to be victims of human trafficking in Katsina State.

The State Comptroller of Immigration, Mohammed Rabiu, told reporters that the suspected traffickers were also arrested in the process.

He said the suspects were intercepted at the Babban Mutum axis of the Nigeria-Niger Republic border in the state.

Mr Rabiu explained that they intended to cross the border through the irregular route to Agadez in Niger Republic where they planned to move over to Libya and finally, to Europe.

He noted that traffickers have turned Katsina border to their normal exit route and warned that the Immigration Service would counter such illegal movements.
