The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has called for prayers for the quick recovery of Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Akeredolu made the call, during an Iftar programme (Breaking of fast) with Muslim Communities in the state, held at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome) in Akure.

He urged the Muslim faithfuls to use the period to pray for the well-being of the President.

Akeredolu who expressed his belief in the efficacy of prayers, urged people of the state to continually pray for the success of his administration.

“It is prayers that brought us to the position of power in the state and we will continue to pray to God for our sustenance and for the betterment of the state”

Speaking further, Governor Akeredolu reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensure that the welfare of Muslims in the state is given a priority and assured to redeem his promise in ensuring that there is an equation balance among the religions in the state as well as running an all-inclusive government.

He expressed the challenges of government, pointing particularly to low allocation which he described as a limitation to solving some issues, but assured that things will improve for the better.

Earlier in his goodwill message, Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas in Ondo State, Alhaji Ahmed Aladesawe, applauded the Governor for returning back the hajj camp earlier converted to infectious disease hospital by the immediate past administration.

Aladesawe, who doubles as Chief Imam of Owo, also applauded the governor on the recent appointment of Tutor-General in the state, in person of Alhaji Kareem Aminu Adesina who is a Muslim, appealing to the Governor to balance the equation as promised during his electioneering campaign.

According to him, the ratio of 60 percent to 40 percent as the case may be should be met in all ramifications, stressing that Muslims are still expecting more to ensure that they are not marginalised.

He said muslims have trust in him and believed in God that Akeredolu will be the one to bring Muslims to limelight”.
The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Yayi-Akorede, in his message, prayed for the quick recovery of President Mohammed Buhari and the revival of Nigeria’s economy for the betterment of its citizenry.

Praying for Ondo State and the Governor, State Missioner, Ansar-Ur-Deen Society of Nigeria, Alhaji Abdulkareem Jetimiodara, prayed for continued peace and development in the state.

He prayed for more knowledge and understanding that will enable the governor deliver on his promises and wished him an eventful tenure.

Guest Lecturer and Grand Mufti of Ondo State, Alhaji Sirajudeen Shehu Batuta, in his lecture titled; ‘Importance of Fasting’, described Islam as a religion of peace.

He noted that Ramadan which comes up once every year is filled with blessings and admonished Muslim faithful to always endeavour to honour the holy month.

Batuta urged Muslims to be prayerful, remain faithful and always exhibit moral conducts, during and even after the fasting period.

He thanked the governor for his care for civil servants in the state and urged him to continue in such direction.

In his welcome speech, the Chairman of the Muslim Welfare Board, Alhaji Khaleel Fawehinmi , appreciated Akeredolu for approving the hosting of the Iftar in spite of the economic recession all over the world.

Fawehinmi, while thanking him for been present at the event, appealed that the event be sustained throughout the tenure of his administration.

Dignitaries who attended the Iftar programme included; former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, Acting Chairman of APC in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Speaker of the State House of Assembly. Rt. Hon. David Oleyeloogun, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale, Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh, Zaki of Arigidi, Oba Yisa Olanipekun, Chief Imam of Akureland, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Yayi-Akorede and the Chairman of Progressive Muslims in APC Alhaji Nureen Akorede and many others.
