Lassa Fever: Ondo Govt Asks Residents To Keep Environment CleanThe Ondo State Government has advised residents of the state to avoid contact with all forms of rats and ensure their environment is kept clean always in order to avoid Lassa fever infection.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Taye Oni, stated this while briefing reporters on the outbreak of the disease in some parts of the state.

Dr. Oni disclosed that seven cases of Lassa fever have been confirmed in two local governments of the state with five cases recorded in Owo LGA and two cases in Akoko South West LGA.

He said all the cases confirmed are under treatment with one of them a student of a private university located in Owo, adding that the school is now free of the disease.

The Permanent Secretary noted that it was the first time the disease would occur during rainy season as it usually comes during the dry season.

He said all the health workers in the state are being sensitised on the disease, adding that the state government is collaborating with the Federal Government to control the outbreak.

Dr. Oni informed that all the cases confirmed are being treated in the isolation ward of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
