Taraba Farmers Protest Over Anti-Grazing BillMembers of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Taraba State have staged a peaceful protest in support of the Anti-Open Grazing Bill in the state.

The protesters stormed the streets of Jalingo, the state capital in their number carrying farm implements, freshly harvested crops and placards with several inscriptions to express their opinions.

They were hopeful that the bill if passed into law would go a long way in checkmating the constant clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the state.

The farmers commended the State Governor, Darius Ishaku for initiating the executive bill which aimed at promoting ranching and modern method of grazing in Taraba State.

The solidarity rally ended at the State House of Assembly where the protesters were received by the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Honourable Abel Peter Diah.

The state chairman of the association, Mr Biyams Adamu, highlighted the reasons for the peaceful march and their visit to the House.

In his response, Honourable Diah appreciated the farmers’ support and urged them to follow due process in tabling their grievances.

Earlier, similar action was taken by herdsmen in the state where they demonstrated against the anti-grazing bill which has passed second reading at the House.
