Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled suicide bomb attacks on two villages located on the outskirt of Maiduguri in Borno State, North East Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, Damian Chukwu, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday in the state capital.

Troops intercepted two teenage female suicide bombers trying to infiltrate Mammanti village at about 2359hrs on Sunday through the parapet ahead of the village in Konduga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The bombers were engaged by the troops after being challenged, resulting in the detonation of their suicide vests and killing only the two suicide bombers with no other casualty recorded.

Also in the wee hours of Monday, troops deployed between Cimari community and the No Man’s Land intercepted another female suicide bomber trying to infiltrate the community through the parapet ahead.

The suicide bomber was however shot by the troops in an attempt to escape while the suicide vest on her body exploded killing the bomber only.

In another development on the same day, a female suicide bomber attempted to enter a mosque in London Ciki area of Jere LGA, also on the outskirt of Maiduguri township.

In the process, she detonated the PBIED on her body killing herself and eight others, while 18 other persons sustained injuries.

Mr Chukwu said Police EOD teams were promptly deployed to the scenes to sanitise and render the scenes and vicinities safe for normal activities to continue.

The corpses and the injured persons have been evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
