Police, Kidnappers, Igbodu, Epe, LagosThe Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has deployed a Joint Police Team with a mandate to wipe out kidnappers on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

The team deployed in Rijanah, Kaduna State comprises the Special Police Force, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Units, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, the Force Intelligence Branch, and the Police Mobile Force with Headquarters.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja where he also paraded some suspected kidnappers of the mother of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in 2014.The Joint Police Team are under

“The Joint Police Team are under a specific and definite mandate to root out the kidnap for ransom gangs and armed robbery gangs that have been terrorising the Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the recent times. The operations are to complement and augment the ongoing Joint Police/Military operations on ground before now”, he said.

Mr Jimoh disclosed that in order to achieve the success of the operations ‘Absolute Sanity’, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations has been mandated to supervise the operation as overall Commander.

He informed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Police Mobile Force would be the Grand Commander of the operations.

The Force spokesman said the police personnel would be proactive and also work on actionable intelligence at their disposal to carry out massive deployment.

He added that the team would ensure 24 hours surveillance, patrol and continuous raids of identified and other suspected hideouts of kidnappers with a view to arresting them promptly before they attack innocent people, as well as tackle other forms of crime on the highway.

“Police helicopters will embark on aerial surveillance and guided missions to assist the operations Absolute Sanity’s personnel on the ground in covering difficult terrains”.

The Police urged members of the public not to panic but assist and cooperate with the personnel in the discharge of their responsibilities.
