Governor of Ekiti State and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said their unwavering stand on truth was responsible for why the factional Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff lost at the Supreme Court.

Fayose said the supporters of Ahmed Makarfi didn’t win the legal battle on the premise of wealth, connection or political scheming, but said what gave them victory over Sheriff’s faction at the Supreme court was their avowed stand for truth .

He made this known on Sunday during a special thanksgiving service at the Saint Paul Anglican Church, Ikole-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of the state, held by the party leaders and members to celebrate the victory.

Party leaders and members who graced the event included: Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Kolapo Olusola, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Kolawole Oluwawole, State Chairman of the party, Gboyega Oguntuase, from Ikole, Chairman of Ikole-Local Government Council, Adeyanju Adeyeye, Kehinde Agboola, member of House of Representatives, representing Ikole Constituency, and member of Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Ikole, Mrs Titilayo Owolabi Akerele, among other dignitaries,

Fayose, who was represented at the event by his deputy, said: “Our story in PDP Ekiti and Nigeria is not different from what happened to Daniel in the Bible. The governor believes so much in prayers.

“When we stand on the truth, God will be with us. What happened to PDP in Nigeria is that truth has prevailed. God has shut the lion’s mouth and prevented it from devouring us. Fayose stands by the truth always and that is why he always triumph,” he said.

While the Chairman of Ikole Local Government, Adeyanju Adeyeye said the victory of the party was a signal to the world that the PDP would win the Ekiti gubernatorial poll in 2018, state Chairman of the Party, Gboyega Oguntuase assured members that no one would be punished for anti-party activities.

“We have come today to give back to God the glory that belongs to Him. We know that this victory has not been our doing but because God, in his infinite mercies, wanted us to have the victory.

“It is very rare to win a case already lost at the High and Appeal court. But God saw us through. God showed His supremacy and all the justices of the Supreme Court decided in favour of Makarfi. With that decision of the Supreme Court, the soul of the PDP has been saved. So, we are celebrating a God that has given us victory.

“I want to tell you that the disposition of the PDP is to make sure that we try nobody for any offence. We want a bigger PDP. There is nobody that is beyond redemption, so as far as I am concerned, we would not try anybody.

“There have been contentions in our party and the case was a legal one and it has been settled by the highest court in the land. We who have been given that power to lead the party would not try anybody for any offence. We will now work together as a family.

“Now, PDP is alive, active and growing. It s now very likely that PDP will reclaim power in 2019. To those who have spoken by the wisdom of man that he has seen the end of PDP, now he has lived to see the glory of PDP,” he added.
