Two persons have been shot dead following a confrontation between the police and a group of protesters in Mathare slums, the Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome says.

The shooting led to a riot with many of the protesters burning tires on the streets.

Tuesday’s closely contested election had generated controversy and resulted in protests.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga had earlier on today said the country’s electoral commission’s computer system was hacked and fake results were posted to show that President Uhuru Kenyatta had a strong lead.

The photos below capture scenes at Mathare after the shooting.
