President Goodluck Jonathan on the third day of working visit to Germany took time to visit the Siemens factory in Berlin for a first-hand information of the workings of the turbine and the rotor machines that are to be sent to Nigeria to enhance the efficiency of the power sector.

He was accompanied on the tour by the Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, the Minister of Trade and Investments, Olusegun Aganga and those of petroleum and water resources.

The Siemens Company under the new agreement will build up a new service workshop for heavy duty turbines and support Nigeria in the energy mix.

The German company is said to be one of the world leading suppliers of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for power generation in thermal power plants, power transmission and transport of oil and gas.

Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the company and the Nigerian government, the president used the opportunity to see things for himself. Siemens is said to be bringing in 10 megawatts of power following the MOU

His first port of call on arrival at the premises of the company was the rotor energy sector.

The head of business segment products gas turbines took time to answer some of the questions that the president and his ministers asked.

From the rotor section the president and his team moved to the turbine section where the president discovered that one of the engineers in Siemens is a Nigerian from Anambra state.

One thing the president emphasised during the the working tour is that it is no longer going to be about coming to buy. It is about getting the German companies to come and set up their factories in Nigeria.

Siemens has already delivered gas turbines for the power stations in Afam and Geregu.
