A Police Inspector, Sa’idu Aliyu, and a teenager were shot dead in a sporadic gunfight between unknown gunmen and security agents, near the zonal headquarters of the police force, Ungwan Danmarna, in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Security sources told a local newspaper on phone that residents of Ungwan Danmarna had remained awake by gunfight since last night till the early hours of today(Wednesday).
The hoodlums shot the policeman at a Mosque opposite the Marina Police barracks in the metropolis shortly after the early morning prayers.
The attackers had similarly shot dead a teenage boy who was sleeping in a shop near the scene of the incident.
The remains of the late policeman and the boy had been deposited at the morgue of the Uthmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
The Police Commissioner in the state, Aliyu Musa confirmed the incident, saying: “I am just about to go to the hospital to have a first hand look at the corpses.
“We will continue with our investigations to get to the root of the matter. We will surely apprehend the fleeing gunmen.
