President Goodluck Jonathan has assured journalists in the country that they will enjoy utmost freedom and constitutional rights more than ever before under his administration.

The president made the pledge while speaking at the opening ceremony of the national delegate’s conference of the Nigerian Union of Journalists pledged to have nothing to do with anyone who breaches the rights of journalists in the country.

He called on the media to put the interest of the nation first as well as rise above manipulations by politicians.

He requested members of the fourth estate of the realm to cross check their facts before publication and also to be mindful of those who use the media to promote their selfish interests.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Transforming Societies through Media Freedom.’

National officers for the union will be elected at the conference which will have 846 delegates participating in.

42 members are contesting the various national offices of the union.
