My colleagues persuaded me to come to office in chieftaincy regalia – Sanusi

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lamido Sanusi on Thursday explained his unusual appearance in the office in chieftaincy attire.

Speaking through the CBN spokesperson, Ugo Okoroafor, Mr Sanusi said that it was his colleagues in the bank that persuaded him to come to the office in his chieftaincy garb

On Friday last week, Mr Sanusi was turbaned the Dan Maje Kano by the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero.
According to the CBN spokesman, Mr Sanusi was “not on duty” the day he appeared in office in the regalia.

“For the avoidance of doubt we want to use this medium to state that the CBN Governor was on a short break, and was not on duty on the said day.

“Malam Sanusi flew into Abuja after the ceremony and when staff got wind of his presence they persuaded him to pass through the office so that they could see the new Dan Maje.”

The CBN governor on Wednesday caused a commotion at the apex bank’s headquarters in Abuja when he appeared in his traditional chieftaincy attire.

Members of staff ran for dear life when the usual smart looking governor stormed the office in a long regalia, with face almost covered, hardly before they could recognize their boss.

    Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is a man filled with massive ego. He is a clown masquerading as an economist and banker. He represents all that is wrong with our ruling elite – corrupt, insensitive and lazy. The CBN just lost 8 staff, and they are even yet to be buried and a thoughtless CBN Governor came to the office in a celebratory regalia, claiming to be doing so on the encouragement of “his colleagues”. A so-called leader, claiming to be following his followers. The National Assembly must call him to order. His conduct is proof that there must be a check on a CBN Governor. His so-called “colleagues” were only humouring him, and he fell for it. What a clown?

      I was astonished when I saw this man in a royal atire. I had to zoomed to glance. Why did he not wait untill he finihes his time in CBN. Any the emir of CBN. This man ppl respect. Is he been beclaouded by the little money and power he presently possessed?. I pray that you pass the litmus test thrown off by the EMir of kAno. The test is who is sinusi lamido sanusi. Why don’t u complete ur tm in cbn and gradually gain access to d power seat. Some body with a pedigree married with principles can still be PERSUADED to do something outside his principle. He likes the outfit, and to show those who were not opportuned to witness, the coronation to him live as the emir of cbn . , we deed prayers in this country. Our late royal aultered that a monkey if given opportunity can clear an acre of farm land. We pray for success in this world.

    What the governor said is likely to be an honest mistake. However, it does demonstrate that in Nigeria most administrators do not truly understand the ethical and moral responsibility attached to the position they hold. This is not about Sanusi as a person; titles and positions in Nigeria do not, any longer carry intrinsic values. Which may be a good thing, as these honorific appellation have been corrupted.

    Indeed, how is this newsworthy? This is totally a non-issue. It only highlights the little tolerance and respect we have for other cultures within our society. So what if he comes to the office for a few minutes in his traditional attire? Doesn`t jonathan wear his local clothes and i can not remember ever seeing obasanjo in a suit!

    Let the guy be…he is doing a good job as the governor and it is only Nigerian`s poor grasp of macro economics that is causing this bad belle….

    Fashola for president, lamido for vice!!!

      This isn’t about cultural intolerance. I’ll bet no one would have raised an eyebrow if he came work dressed in a jalabiya.

      Imagine for a minute that he was Prince Charles and had just been crowned King, then at the ‘persuasion’ of his colleagues, he comes to work with the imperial state crown on his head, sceptre in one hand, orb in the other and the Imperial robe on his back. That is just inappropriate.

      This is a ceremonial attire and shouldn’t be debased in such a manner. In today’s digital world, I’m sure there are other ways his peers could have seen him in it.

        @Leta, please don’t display your ignorance so openly! Is the title of danmaje same thing as prince Charles being crowned a king? If lamido was crown Emir, he would automatically cease to be governor of central bank and thus will be in no position to go to the office in his regalia! Prince Charles is prince of Wales, and doesn’t have a salaried job, but still wear his regalia when holding court. Sultan of Sokoto was a soldier till the day he was crowned, but from that day dare not wear a military uniform!

    I think it is now obvious that the CBN governor is not in any way emotionally attached to his job, people  and of course not interested in any good economic condition of the country. In less than a week after the Dana saga that involved 8 top CBN staff, the govnr could still show a remorseless attitude.

    The whole country is sinking and unfortunately the managers of our country and economy show no concern. There is no hiding place for anybody when the sky falls!!!

    Malam  Sanusi had wanted to show himself off so he readily shielded to the so call persuasion of his colleague. Now CBN has to defend him that he is not on duty…………..laughing stock.

    Anyone still in doubt or dumb to decode to symbols? Now I will make it easy. If the so-called Boko Haram was not being sponsored by the likes of this hypocrite putting ties and blowing English to confuse those foolish enough to fall for it, why didn’t we hear that the so-called Boko Haram stayed away from his coronation and instead choose to target innocent worshippers that only went to church to worship God?
    When some idiots wants to justify the madness and want the world to believe that Christians/Southerners/Easterners are not the target, I feel sorry for them, because those who perished the past two Sundays alone have the same foolish belief that they are not the target.

    If Boko Haram is not part of the genocide of Biafra in particular, then we would have seen them in action at this their ‘babas’ turbaning, where it is clear they would have get closer to the main demons in human skin they claimed to be fighting against.
    Never feel safe because it is not yet over, your neighbour is already taken so the chances are that you’ll be next…. AND THAT IS WHY EVERYONE DOES WHATEVER DAY LIKE,,,,NO WONDER THE SO CALLED GOVERNOR OF CBN WAS SO AGGRESSIVE IN HIS PRESENTATION OF ISLAMIC BANKING BEFORE THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY,,,AND LIKEWISELY VERY PROUD IN HIS PRESENTATION STATEMENTS BEFORE THE NATIONAL HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY,,,AS IF HE WAS ADDRESSING HIS FAMILY…I WILL LIKE TO ADVICE THE SO CALLED GOVERNOR TO BEHAVE IN A DISCIPLINE MANNER,,SINCE HE HAS TRAVELLED TO THE REST OF THE WORLD AND KNOWS HOW THEY DOES THERE OFFICIAL PROCEEDURES..
