President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday met with leaders of the three arms of government, in a bid to search for new ways and strategies to fight the scourge of corruption in Nigeria.

The meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, is expected to produce a Federal Government strategy, which might be known as The National Strategy on the Fight Against Corruption.

The meeting convened by President Jonathan is the first of its kind by any sitting President on the issue of corruption.

The meeting which was chaired by the president had on the side of the Presidency, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Secretary to Government of Federation (SGF),  Anyim Pius Anyim and the Head of Service of the Federation, Bello Sali.

Also in attendance was the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Lamido Sanusi, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

The Senate President, David Mark and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, led the leadership of the National Assembly to the meeting which held at the Presidential Council Chambers, Abuja.

Other members of the National Assembly in attendance are – the Senate Leader and House Leader, the Senate Committee Chairman on Drugs Narcotics and Financial Crimes and his counterpart from the House of Representatives.

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Dahiru Musdafa led members of the judiciary which included the Acting President of the Court of Appeal, the Judges of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, Kaduna and Anambra states.

Speaking to State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting,  Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, said the meeting focused on how the three arms of government can work together to stem corruption in the country.

The Attorney General hinted that though the Fuel Subsidy Report was not discussed in the meeting, he gave an assurance saying “Nigerians should be rest assured that  in the next one week government will soon start the prosecution of  those indicted in the report” he said.
