Yobe state Government has distributed assorted grains to disables, orphans and widows draw across the state free of charge.

At the ceremony in Damaturu, the state capital,  assorted grains were sold to  the people of the state to cushion the effects of the high cost of food prices as well as stabilize market price.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said 11,700 will be sold at a subsidized rate of N1,000 per bag as the less privileged will  share 500 bags.

Low cadre civil servants will benefit from 1,800 bags while Local government areas will share the rest according to their various needs.

Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam urged the distribution committee to ensure fairness and to remit the money recovered from the sales to the government coffer assuring that his administration will continue to accord agriculture the needed support.

The state commissioner of Agriculture, Alhaji Idi Barde applauded the strategic grains reserve aimed at buying, storing and distributing the product to farmers at the time of need.

The programme according to him will stabilize market price as farmers are currently at the mercy of exploitation from the middle men.

Channels television recalls that the strategic grains reserve is a programme introduced by the present administration aimed at buying grains from farmers at a high price and later distributes same to them at a subsidized price at the time of need to help cushion hunger among the less privileged.
