The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed has revealed that the sum of N2.6 billion has been approved for the reconstruction of the new United Nations building in Abuja and an additional N600 million is for renting alternative offices totalling N3.2 billion.

Mr Mohammed made this known while speaking at the one year remembrance ceremony of the UN bomb blast that claimed 23 lives and injured 120 others on 26 August 2011.

The Minister said that the reconstruction of the building was put on hold due to the absence of indigenous experts to conduct integrity test on the building

He however gave the assurance that the integrity test on the building which was bombed during a terrorist attack last year has been completed and remediation will commence by the end of the year.

The federal government has come under heavy criticism over delay in the reconstruction of the UN building.

Meanwhile some victims of the explosion, who are non UN staff, have cried out over the neglect of medical bills and the compensation promised by the federal government last year.

The federal government also restated plans to compensate victims of the bomb attack.

Government officials, diplomats, staff of the UN, families and casualties of the bombing assembled in Abuja to remember the deceased.
