Osun declares 15th of November, public holiday for Hijrah

The Osun state government has declared Thursday the 15th of November 2012, public holiday to mark the first day of Hijrah calendar.

Making this declaration in Osogbo, the state capital, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Ajibola Bashir, said the step is to promote religious harmony in the state.

The holiday signifies the beginning of a new year in the Muslim faithful’s lunar calendar.

    Aregbeshola needs to be careful. Nigeria is a secular nation and must be respected as such and not bastardized. Will the governor have declared public holiday to mark the first day of other religions in the state? If so, how many public holidays would he have declared?
    One can only wonder and ponder what would eventually become of this governor.
    People need development and not separation along religious line in Osun state which happens to be my state so Mr. Governor focus on how to develop Osun state and make it a modern state.
    It is development that we need and not division so please continue to develop the state.

      I dont understand you mr truesage. People celebrate first day of christian calendar.Maybe you dont know that the normal first of Jan is first day in xtian calendar. So whats bad celebrating first day of muslim calandar? Its you that is trying to bring segregation.
