Human rights groups have called for the investigation and prosecution of Senator Margery Okadigbo over allegations of forging documents and stamp of an Anambra State High Court which she allegedly used to obtain the judgment of the Supreme Court that declared her as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) representing Anambra North Senatorial district.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Director General of Global Centre for Conscious Living Against Corruption, Dr Nwambu Gabriel, while presenting a petition on behalf of the civil society, appealed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to avert a miscarriage of justice as hearing on the said suit comes up on the 7th of March at the Supreme Court.
The groups; Global Centre for Conscious Living Against Corruption (GLOCCOLAC), Accountability and Leadership Survey, Democratic Women Alliance of Nigeria, National Youth Movement for Progressive Change and the Independent Democratic Watch-dog of Nigeria in the petition to CJN, Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, stated that Senator Okadigbo has been using her influence to evade police invitations and summons.
They also called on relevant authorities to ensure that she is brought to book.
Mrs Okadigbo is the widow of late Senate President; Dr Chuma Okadigbo.
The Supreme Court in July 2012, her the duly nominated candidate of the PDP and the winner of the April 16, 2011 senatorial election for Anambra North zone.
Several factions of PDP in Anambra state were enmeshed in bitter lawsuits over who was the duly and validly nominated candidate from the party’s primary elections ahead the general election in the state in 2011.
