As the literary world continue to eulogize the virtues of late Chinua Achebe , the Vice Chancellor University of Ibadan Prof. Isaac  Adewole has described the late author as a “literary giant, social critic and a pan Africanist of immeasurable proportion whose absence will be sorely missed”.

Describing him as an outstanding student of the university who graduated in 1953, Prof. Adewole said his simplicity in style and his very close touch with the grassroots stood him out among his peers.

While lamenting the absence of a functional reading culture among Nigerians especially the younger generation, the university don advocated the revival of reading culture starting from various homes in the country.

He added that the best way to promote reading culture is to devise an integrated programme involving not only the government but the private sector, individuals and parents aimed at improving reading culture.

At the department of English where Achebe graduated, the head of department Dr. Nelson Fashina, extolled the contribution of Achebe to national development and disclosed that the department has an upcoming programme in honour of the late literary icon.
