The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the training of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on disasters management across the country.

Speaking to Channels Television during the training workshop in Minna, the Zonal Co-Ordinator NEMA Abuja Operation Office, Slaku Bijimi mentioned that the trainning is aimed at using the corps members as vanguards for proactive disaster management in the country.

Mr. Bijimi noted that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has a pool of resourceful staff, corps members and existing structures to take disaster management sensitisation across the country.

President, National Emergency Management Agency NYSC Community Development Service Group (CDS) Obidile Onyedika thanked the officials of the National Emergency Disaster Agency Management for giving the corps members some useful information on disaster management.

He also spoke of the activities and plans of Niger State Disater Manegement Community Development Service Group.

With Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) prediction of a likely flood across the country in 2013, it is expected that these corps members will help in creating the needed awareness in their various community.
