The rift between the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has resurfaced with restrictions placed on three NLNG vessels on June 22nd.

NLNG has described the restrictions placed on their vessels by NIMASA as a breach of a court order.

A Federal High Court in Lagos presided by Justice M.B. Idris, had on Tuesday, 18th June 2013, issued an injunction stopping Global West, and any other parties including NIMASA from imposing any charges or preventing access by NLNG owner vessels coming in or out of Bonny channel.

On the 3rd of May 2013, NIMASA had blocked the Bonny channel preventing entry and exit of NLNG vessels, which led to the federal government ordering the company to pay NIMASA the stipulated levies.

NLNG is claiming to have paid $20 million (approximately N3.2 billion) into NIMASA’s designated account and approached the court to seek proper justice and a lasting solution to the conflict.
