Following the attack on Damaturu metropolis by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe state four days ago, the Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam has called on the federal government and the defence headquarters to deplore more men and supply sophisticated weapons to the troubled state to cope with the incessant attacks by the dreaded sect, Boko Haram, if the war against the insurgents is to be won.

The governor was speaking after visiting the site, where damage was done to some security formations by the radical sect the Boko Haram after last Thursday’s coordinated attack.

The governor said Thursday’s attack was coordinated and simultaneous, hence his call for the provision of more sophisticated weapons and more officers to the state, so that the frequent guerilla style of the insurgents can be checked and within a short while the war against the sect will be won.

While at the area command, governor Gaidam says the families of those killed in the attack will be assisted with the sum of one million naira while those that sustained injuries in the attack will be given five hundred thousand naira and above depending on the degree of the injury sustained.

“Based on what I have seen in the course of the visit to all the sites destroyed by the insurgents, it reveals that they have more sophisticated arms that can wreak havoc within a very short time”

Places visited by the governor include the Presidential lodge, where the governor was shown some vehicles, arms and ammunition recovered from the insurgents, the 233 Military Battalion at Kukareta, where the insurgents launched attack with a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) to burn down most of the structures at the site.

The governor also visited the Anti-terrorists squad base, where five residential houses were razed down before visiting the mobile base, the C division, and the Area command.

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam was also conducted round the military base by the Commandant of the 233 Battalion, Colonel A.O. Abdullahi while he was taken round the police formations by the State Commissioner of Police, Rufai Sanusi who both pledged to continue doing their best in the fight to restore normalcy in the state.
