Rivers state police command has denied claims that some policemen invaded and broke into the residence of the Chief Of Staff to Rivers State governor, Tony Okocha and withdrew some policemen attached to him.

Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Mbu Joseph Mbu at a press conference with journalists today at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt said the statement was false.

Mbu also claimed that going by the existing circular from the police authority, the Chief of Staff is not entitled to police orderly, while the Secretary to the State Government is only entitled to one police orderly.

Speaking through the police spokesman, DSP Ahmed Muhammad, the Rivers State Police Chief however  called on members of the public to dismiss and also disregard such outcry, as it is misleading and false.

Mbu again maintained that the police force is determined and will not relent in their efforts to ensure that lives and properties of Governor Chibuike Amaechi is protected, including the entire citizens of Rivers state.

Reacting to the police press statement in his office at government house, Port Harcourt, the Chief of Staff, Tony Okocha said as a public officer, police officers were assigned to him, when he assumed office in 2011 and described the new decision of the police as premeditated.

He went further to buttress his claims with a wireless message he received from the Rivers state police command on the 22nd of October 2013.

He described the activities of the police in Rivers state against his office as a huge disappointment perfected to deceive Nigerians and decried the consistent embarrassment by the police to discredit his office.

There was no police presence at the residences of the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State government, George Feyii, when Channels Television visited there, contrary to the claims of the Rivers state command.

The security guard at the residence of the Chief of Staff, Wisdom Chukwuma also told Channels Television crew, how police invaded the premises of the Chief of Staff last week.

This current situation may not be unconnected with the non-availability of security funds from the government house to the police in the state which the chief of staff is in charge of.

It will be recalled that the Chief of Staff, Tony Okocha raised an alarm on the sudden withdrawal of two of the policemen assigned to secure his official residence and others attached to the Secretary to the Rivers state government, Mr George Feyii without any notice.

Mr. Okocha alleged that the State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu was responsible for the withdrawal, while speaking to Channels Television in his office in  government house, Port Harcourt.

He narrated how armed policemen, totalling about 15 stormed his official residence and ordered out the two policemen, while he was away for an official meeting.

He said same was done to another principal officer of the Amaechi administration, Mr, George Feyii, who is the Secretary to the state government.
