Nigeria Ash WednesdayChristians in the country have been asked to show love, forgiveness and work towards the attainment of peace and development in the country as they mark this year’s Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Lenten season for Orthodox Christians.

The parish priest at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama district of Abuja, Reverend Father Christopher Inegbenoghu asked Nigerians to assist government in combating insecurity.

Christians had gathered at the church in Maitama to reflect on the death and resurrection of Christ.

After a sermon on the need to show love and forgive all irrespective of religion or ethnicity, Christian faithful filed out to receive the ash which commemorates the beginning of a forty-day Lenten period.

Peter Egeolu and Theresa Akpoveta Nakpoberuo, who spoke to Channels Television, said that the period presented them an opportunity to serve humanity and the nation at large.
